Search Results Getting Better, but Don’t Collect My Information

If you’re considering not utilizing SEM into your next media plan, you may want to reconsider.

It seems like we see new functions and features added to search engines every day – so much so that it’s hard to keep track! According to a recent survey by Pew Internet Research, users are happier than ever with the quality of their search results – 55% are saying search results have improved over time. Additionally, 73% of all Americans are using search engines to obtain information (as of February 2012).

Typically, search users are not in favor of personalized results based on targeting or personal information (65% say it’s a bad thing). 73% of internet users said they are not okay with search engines using usage data to provide personalized results.

While these users don’t necessarily appreciate the fine-tuning of personalized results or targeted ads, search engine usage has increased 21% since 2002 – and continues to grow. With this continued growth over time, as a marketer don’t rule out the PPC! You will be missing out on an audience that is asking to see your messages.
